Michael Lacey is a 58-year-old American mathematician. Mr. Lacey is very knowledgeable and composed his thesis at the University of Illinois about Banach spaces on the area of probability. He was also able to solve a difficult problem about empirical characteristic functions related to the law of an iterated logarithm. Read more: Michael Lacey | Wikipedia

Since receiving his Ph.D in 1987 he had also acquired positions at the University of North Carolina and the Louisiana State University. Along with Walter Philipp, Lacey had given his central limit theorem proof as being almost sure. Mr. Lacey had also worked on several other areas such as probability, ergodic theory and even harmonic analysis.

From 1989 to 1996 Michael Lacey had a position at Indiana University and received his Postdoctoral Fellowship in the National Science Foundation. During his position at that location he started his study of the Hilbert transform which is bilinear.

This transform was solved in 1996 by Christoph Thiele and Lacey and both of them were awarded the Salem Prize.

Currently, Michael Lacey is at the Georgia Institute of Technology as a Professor of Mathematics and has been there since 1996. Mr. Lacey had earned the Guggenheim Fellowship in 2004 while working with Xiaochun Li. He had also become a fellow of the American Mathematical Society in 2012.

Michael Lacey has written many articles on arXiv. Some of them include Sparse Endpoint Estimates for Bochner-Riesz Multipliers on the Plane and On Convergence of Oscillatory Ergodic Hilbert Transforms. He has also composed many articles on the Non-arxiv.

Jim Larkin was an activist and trade unionist who was born in 1874. He was brought up in one of the slums in Liverpool, and for that reason, Jim did not experience much of the formal education. For Larkin to supplement the little income of his family, he had to look for some odd jobs during his youthful age.

Due to his dedication and hard work, Jim Larkin was appointed the foreman of one of the Liverpool docks. Since he was a committed activist and socialist, Jim wanted workers at Liverpool docks to be treated fairly. This is one of the reasons he joined NUDL. In 1905, James Larkin deiced to become a full-time unionist. However, his approaches on strikes did not please NUDL (National Union of Dock Labourers).

Most of his strike methods were sympathetic and involved boycotting of goods from the Liverpool docks.

In 1907, Jim was transferred to Dublin. Still, he did not give up on union activities. While in Dublin, he founded a trade union known as ITGWU (Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union). Jim founded the union with the aim of bringing together all of the Irish workers, both unskilled and skilled.

At some point, Mr. Larkin acted like an activist with no limits. He formed the ILP (Irish Labour Party), which was responsible for numerous strikes that were experienced during the 1913 Dublin Lockout.

During this period, more than 100000 workers were on strike for more than eight months. The strike gave good results because they won the right to fair employment programs.

At the beginning of World War I, Mr. James rallied demonstrations against the war in Dublin. He also sought for funds from the United States of America to fight the United Kingdom. Some of his wars were successful others were not. In 1920, Jim Larkin was convicted of communism and criminal anarchy.

However, he was pardon by the British and deported to his country of origin, Ireland. While in Ireland, James Larkin managed to form the Worker’s Union. In 1924, he was recognized by the Communist International.

In the same year, Jim created a popular trade union known as WUI (Worker’s Union of Ireland). In 1945, he joined Irish Labor Party (ILP) with the aim of helping workers achieved their working benefits. However, death removed him from his real mission in 1947.

One of the natural disasters that has left people grappling with the question of how to rebuild their lives is the mudslide that occurred in the West African nation of Sierra Leone. In the middle of August a mudslide struck the country and the impact was devastating.

According to reports more than 1,000 people died as a result of the mudslide. The event has left the country in the midst of a humanitarian crisis when it was just recovering from the impact of a health crisis that was caused by an outbreak of Ebola several years ago. Humanitarian crises might be considered what public policy experts call a wicked problem. They are incredibly difficult to solve, information on how these crises are solved are not always immediately apparent and they are often connected with other complicated problems.

Fortunately humanitarian organizations like UN Women, the United Nation’s gender-focused agency, are currently on the ground trying to help the people impacted by the mudslide to the best of their ability. UN Women’s website notes that natural disasters can tend to hit women much harder than other populations. The United Nations has led the distribution of dignity kits that contain menstrual pads, clothing and other necessities for grooming.

During times of instability women and girls can also be susceptible to being targets of sexual assault and other forms of gender-based violence. In recognition of this possibility UN Women has turned its attention towards working with a division of the Sierra Leone police force that focuses on social issues to help keep women and girls safe from sexual violence in the midst of the mudslide.

Like UN Women The Larkin and Lacey Fund is dedicated to creating a better world. The Larkin and Lacey Fund is a foundation that was launched by journalists Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey after they were awarded a settlement through a court in Arizona.

The fund is an indication of the passion that Larkin and Lacey have for building a society that is more equitable for the people living in it. Even though the men were under no obligation to spend the money that they received from the settlement on anything other than themselves or their loved ones they chose to use the money to do something that would help other people.

Rather than using the millions of dollars that the settlement amounted to to enrich themselves they directed the money towards civil society organizations that worked with marginalized communities.

Larkin and Lacey noted that part of what motivated him to use the money for a good cause was the fact that he was raised to think about the needs of people who were in unfortunate situations. The fund that he created with his friend Michael Lacey uses its resources to support nonprofits that support the Hispanic community.

The fund has offered financial assistance to organizations like Trans Queer Pueblo, The Young Center, Two Americans Documentary Relaunch and the Arizona Justice Project. Larkin and Lacey’s decision to support members of the community who have less shows the world that having and demonstrating empathy for others is the first step building a more just world.

Thor Halvorssen, a 39-year-old half-Norwegian and half-Venezuelan, is becoming more and more recognized as a fighter for human rights. After founding the Human Rights Foundation a decade ago, this man has been on the hunt for dictators and regimes that break human rights around the world.

In 2010, he went to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to interview Thich Quang Do, the partiarch of the Unified Buddhist Church after it was banned in that country. Mr. Halvorssen was actually arrested at that time, but was let go after convincing the Vietnamese authorities that he’s a Buddhist seeker.

He’s also known for harsh criticism of Latin American leftist dictatorships such as that of Venezuela, a country where he was born. As evident on his Facebook page, Thor Halvorssen had even enlisted the famous human rights fighter, Václav Havel of Czech Republic, who served as Human Rights Foundation’s chairman until his death in 2011. He was followed by another famous figure, the chess champion Garry Kasparov, the man who openly opposes Vladimir Putin.

The foundation has also received support from the world of big business: Google’s Sergey Brin and Paypal’s Peter Thiel are among the donors.

While many human rights advocates are leftist, Thor Halvorssen sees Socialism as a system that can potentially break human rights. Still, he supported Bernie Sanders’ failed presidential campaign. It was largely a sign of opposition to Hillary Clinton’s ties to Middle Eastern regimes. In fact, the Clinton Foundation received money from places with dictatorial regimes such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Algeria, and the United Arab Emirates.

While still under 40, Thor Halvorssen has plenty of time ahead of him and plenty of fights for human rights to get involved into.

The Democratic candidate for President of the United States, Bernie Sanders, is very well known for his advocacy for a socialist government. He is serving his second term in the U.S Senate after a massive re-election wins back in the year 2012. Bernie Sanders is indeed an authentic leader with American people at heart having served as a congressman in the house of representatives for more than 15 years, and still gearing on to sit on the big seat to revolutionize the United States.

Bernie Sanders’ vision to create a socialist government in the United States can be the next game changer in the modern administrative system in U.S. According to Thor Halvorssen, having a socialist government is totally normal as long as there are integrated policies, powers, and constitutional rights governing the people.

The systems will guarantee every citizen of United States have access to the essential commodities and protection of human rights. This will be the next thing American people experience from the arms of governance to tackle the exploitation of human rights.

The candidate, Bernie Sanders, has proved his real motives and intentions to a socialist structure in his government once he sets in through his involvement of the people of the United States to make a willing monetary contribution towards his campaigns. This shows the voters the kind of future they will experience togetherness and supporting each other in times of needs.

This evolution of a socialism structured governance will advocate the control and regulation of the political and economical as a social organization owned by the United States community as a whole. This will oversee and enhance the freedom in the production, distribution and exchanged of essential goods and services, improving the standards of living and welfare of the Americans. The best way indeed to eradicate poverty and diminishing the gap between the rich and everyone else.

Thor Halvorssen believes that democratic socialism will succeed not by the distribution of wealth but through finding effective ways to create more wealth for the United States to overcome poverty.
